چکیده
Age at implantation is considered to be a major factor, influencing outcomes after pediatric cochlear implantation. In the absence of acoustic input, it has been proposed that cross-modal reorganization can detrimental for adaptation new electrical input provided by implant. Here, through retrospective study, we aimed investigate differences in cerebral blood flow (CBF) rest prior children with congenital deafness compared normally hearing children. addition, looked putative link between pre-operative rest-CBF and oral intelligibility scores 12 months post-implantation. Finally, observed evolution perfusion age, within brain areas showing abnormal associated deafness, deaf older than 5 years old, results showed significant bilateral hypoperfusion temporal regions children, particularly Heschl’s gyrus, hyperperfusion occipital regions. Furthermore, whole voxel-by-voxel correlation analysis post-implantation, negative localized regions: who performed worse speech perception test one year were those presenting higher preoperative CBF values these when comparing mean relative (extracted from found on whole-brain voxel-based analysis) across ages patients controls, was significantly different Indeed, while increased age remained stable We critical period around 4 where context auditory deprivation, there lack synaptic activity These support benefits early maximize effectiveness rehabilitation avoid reorganization.

Prematurity and brain perfusion: Arterial spin labeling MRI
PURPOSE Abnormal brain perfusion is a critical mechanism in neonatal brain injury. The aim of the present study was to compare Cerebral Blood Flow (CBF) evaluated with ASL MRI in three groups of neonates: preterms without brain lesions on MRI (PN), preterms with periventricular white matter lesions (PNp) and term neonates with normal MRI (TN). The correlation between CBF and clinical outcome wa...
متن کاملArterial spin labeling MRI study of age and gender effects on brain perfusion hemodynamics.
Normal aging is associated with diminished brain perfusion measured as cerebral blood flow (CBF), but previously it is difficult to accurately measure various aspects of perfusion hemodynamics including: bolus arrival times and delays through small arterioles, expressed as arterial-arteriole transit time. To study hemodynamics in greater detail, volumetric arterial spin labeling MRI with variab...
متن کاملClinical assessment of brain perfusion in newborn infants with arterial spin labeling perfusion MRI
INTRODUCTION. Many approaches have been applied to evaluate brain perfusion in neonates: brain ultrasound, near-infrared spectroscopy, and positron emission tomography (PET). However perfusion weighted imaging (PWI) MRI has been shown to enable in vivo direct measurements of brain perfusion in different brain regions. Recent advances have lead to the development of non-contrast agent based Arte...
متن کاملSimulations of Perfusion Signals of Pulsed Arterial Spin Labeling MRI
Perfusion is a physiological parameter that refers to the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to tissues via the flow of blood (1). Cerebral blood flow (CBF) is generally quantified in terms of milliliters of blood per gram of tissue per second ml/g/sec (2). Perfusion measurements provide information regarding tissue viability and function, and are therefore of fundamental significance in the fiel...
متن کاملArterial Spin Labeling Perfusion of the Brain: Emerging Clinical Applications.
Arterial spin labeling (ASL) is a magnetic resonance (MR) imaging technique used to assess cerebral blood flow noninvasively by magnetically labeling inflowing blood. In this article, the main labeling techniques, notably pulsed and pseudocontinuous ASL, as well as emerging clinical applications will be reviewed. In dementia, the pattern of hypoperfusion on ASL images closely matches the establ...
